The Rev. Ruth Mooney, our American Baptist Missionary to Costa Rica, will be the guest speaker at Central Baptist Church on Sunday, October 30, 2011. She will share her amazing stories of God’s work at the Latin American Biblical University where she teaches classes in Spanish. Central Baptist Church prayerfully and financially supports God’s work through Ruth Mooney on a monthly basis for the past thirty years. Ruth’s sermon on Sunday, October 30 will be “A Question of Perspective,” based on 2 Kings 19:9-19. Central Baptist Church’s worship services at 8:30 and 11:00 a.m. are open to the public. Please plan to give a special free-will offering to further God’s work in Costa Rica through Ruth Mooney.

Ruth’s ministry is Christian education. She lives in Costa Rica, where she serves on the faculty of the Latin American Biblical University, a seminary founded in 1924 that prepares pastors and leaders for churches throughout Latin America. In addition to teaching Christian Education classes on the San José campus, Ruth will respond to invitations from affiliated institutions in other parts of Latin America. The University has also asked her to work with the Publications Department, editing materials written by the faculty for their extension programs. These texts respond to the needs of students who study from their places of ministry.

Ruth has extensive experience in writing Bible study materials and training Sunday school teachers. Most recently, she directed Ediciones Lumbrera, a ministry of the Federacion de Asociaciones Bautistas de Costa Rica. Previously she served in Cuba and El Salvador, where she trained curriculum teams to respond to the specific needs of the churches in those regions.

Worship services should help people commune with the living God in Jesus Christ through the Holy Spirit (Trinitarian). To this end, the Worship Team has redesigned the 11:00 a.m. service to “draw wisdom from the past” while moving the present church into the future. The service blends together music from all styles (contemporary, modern, 80s, classic, hymns) with a little Tabasco. We will draw together ancient biblical worship, classical traditions, and the entire history of the Church – particularly the Reformers and evangelicals - casual dress and current customs with the hope of creating a service where people feel rooted in the Biblical story, connected to God and others, and authentic in their faith and practice. We affirm the Bible as the final authority in all matters of faith and practice.

Join us this Sunday for our revised service at 11:00 a.m. Download a copy of the worship bulletin: www.cbcquincy.org/services/worship-bulletins. Give us your honest feedback! Suggest your favorite worship and praise song as we try to follow the Spirit of God into the future.
