We’re delighted you are interested in visiting Central Baptist Church. Hopefully, you will find our church friendly and genuinely interested in you as a person because “We’re on a First Name Basis at Central.” Below, you’ll find helpful information for your first visit:
Location: 321 N. 7th Street, Quincy, Illinois 62301 – Helpful hints: we are located on the southwest corner of 7th and Broadway (Illinois Route 104) streets in downtown Quincy, Illinois (google.maps). We are seven blocks east of the Mississippi River; one block east of the Court House. The CYO (Catholic Youth Organization) Gymnasium is across 7th street, and Burger King restaurant faces us on Broadway. You drive past Central Baptist if you cross the one-way, westbound Bay View Bridge from Illinois to Missouri.
Nursery: Loving child care is provided at all service by trained adults for children newborn through age 3. The Nursery is located on southwest corner of the first floor. Children age four through second grade sit with their parents the first fifteen minutes of worship, then after the Children’s Sermon, they attend Children’s Own Worship on the third floor.
Parking: There is ample parking in two large lots near the church. The South lot is accessible from 7th or Vermont Street with Handicapped parking near a ramp to the front entrance. The West lot is accessible from Broadway (Illinois Route 104) with an easy entry into the Fellowship Hall (cafeteria). A limited amount of on-street parking is available in front of the church on 7th Street.
Transportation: The Church provides free bus and van transportation on Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings. Please contact the Bus hot line: 217-224-4799.
Worship Services: Our services are designed to help people connect with God and others in a spiritual surrounding. Services focus on upbeat, inspiring music and relevant preaching. Services are offered in English. There are two services on Sundays:
8:30 a.m. Traditional Service: A conservative, classical Christian service expressing historical elements of call to worship, responsive readings, laity worship leaders, assigned scripture readings, organ and traditional hymns, an adult Chancel choir, special music, instrumental ensembles, soloists, the Gloria Patri, Doxology, Lord’s Prayer, Children’s sermon, mission moments, stewardship highlights, formal pastoral prayers, relevant messages and a benediction. Each service begins with a greeting where members shake hands. Visitors are frequently asked to raise their hands so ushers can identify them. Most members dress professionally for the Traditional service.
11:00 a.m. Contemporary Service: A blended, causal dress (no ties) service which reflects a free style of praise and worship. Worshipers are encouraged to clap or raise their hands, say, “Amen,” and greet one another openly. Andy Rhea (worship leader) and the Worship Band lead contemporary and traditional songs with acoustic and electric guitars, piano, drums and more. This service is ideal for families with young children!
Periodically, we offer special services on Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve. All services are open to the public and free of charge. A free-will offering is received during each service but visitors are not expected to donate.
The Lord’s Supper: Central Baptist celebrates the Lord’s Supper (communion or Eucharist) on the first Sunday of each month. Every baptized believer can partake of the elements. Membership is not required. We ask that persons hold the bread or cup until everyone is served, then we eat together. Deacons, Deaconesses and the Pastor distribute communion to the hospital, nursing homes and shut ins. Please contact the church office for special delivery.
