Quincy Area Partnership for Unmet Needs

April 30th, 2010

The Quincy Area Partnership for Unmet Needs is a network of dedicated people from government agencies, community service organizations, churches, grants/foundations and volunteers who meet every other Wednesday to address the poverty needs in Adams County.  The Committee reviews written requests for funds and services that can not be addressed by government and not-for-profit agencies.  The Unmet Needs Committee serves as the last place for assistance after individuals and families have exhausted all other avenues for help.  In 2009, 101 cases were presented for assistance with only nine requests denied for not qualifying.  The Committee also helps families displaced by flooding along the Mississippi.

In 2009, there were several notable accomplishments that the Unmet Needs Committee can be proud of:

  • 31 individuals or families were provided heat and electricity
  • 30 individuals or families were able to maintain transportation through car repairs, insurance, license.
  • 28 individuals or families avoided loss of their homes thru rent or mortgage payments
  • 8 individuals or families were assisted with vital home repair to keep them safe and warm
  • 71 individuals who lack adequate access to health care were provided with necessary medical care, medication, counseling or medical equipment
  • Numerous other miscellaneous financial needs were provided for people who were in crisis situations (i.e., clothing, household items, furniture, and appliances)

Central Baptist Church actively participates in the Partnership for Unmet Needs through the dedicated work of Charlie Husted and myself.  In 2009 Central Baptist pledged $915.00 from the Fellowship Fund to cases beyond our congregation’s needs.  It is a great joy to share these resources as we lived Jesus Christ’s command to “love our neighbors as ourselves.”  Overall, fifteen churches donated $16,507.31 to the Committee’s work including: Central Baptist Church, Christ Lutheran Church, The Crossing, Faith Christian Church, First Christian Church, First Union Congregational Church, Madison Park Christian Church, Melrose Chapel United Methodist Church, Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Salem Evangelical United Church of Christ, St. James Lutheran Church, St. John’s Anglican Church, St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Trinity United Church of Christ, and Vermont Street United Methodist Church.  Your donations to the Fellowship Fund helps meet the unmet needs of our neighbors in Adams County.  Thank you for your generous giving!  Please contact me if you would like to become involved in the Quincy Area Partnership for Unmet Needs.

May Flower Blessings,
Pastor Ivan
