Bylaw Taskforce Meeting on Monday, May 3

April 30th, 2010

The Bylaw Taskforce met with the Rev. Dr. Dwight Stinnett to begin the process of updating the church’s governance policies.  The Taskforce was formed after the Nominating Committee struggled to recruit enough members to fill Board vacancies in 2009 as reported at the December and Annual Business meetings.  The Taskforce hopes to: (1) reduce the size of Boards and Committee so more individuals are free to serve in ministry areas that match their giftedness, (2) help the Church to become more “permission giving” to individuals with new ideas or those who want to serve the Lord but are not members of the Church, (3) consider reducing some term-limits, and (4) clarify “governance” (decisions that need to be made by elected members only) verses “ministries” (places where members and nonmembers are free to serve with their God-given gifts).  Members also expressed a desire to have fewer Business meetings so they do not interfere with Chancel Choir rehearsal.  The meetings are open. Minutes for every meeting will be posted on the website and the bulletin board outside the Church Office.  Please speak with Jim Fox, Moderator, if you have ideas for improving the way our Church cooperates with God in ministry.
