At the close of World War I, Kings College Chapel in Cambridge, England began its famous Christmas Eve tradition: “A Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols.” This Christmas, Central Baptist Church will offer “A Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols” based on the service at Kings College. The service at Central Baptist will include traditional music, an inspiring message and nine short bible stories about God’s gift of love for you.
The evening will also include special performances by our Hand Bell Choir, Brass Ensemble, vocal and instrumental soloists. The service will open with the traditional carol, which is always, “Once in Royal David’s City” and conclude with a guitar accompaniment to Jospeh Mohr and Franz Gruber’s, “Silent Night.” Each year the service also includes a new, specially commissioned carol. For the 2009 Festival, Mr. Andy Rhea, Director of Contemporary Worship and Mrs. Rexanne Greuter, Director of Choir, will create a new song for the celebration. The Lord’s Supper will be served to all baptized Christians. A free will offering will be received for American Baptist orphanage and children’s home in Anchorage, Alaska. We encourage you to bring your family and friends to this enchanted evening of worship and praise on the night of the Nativity!
