Over the past 10 years, Myanmar’s (formerly known as Burma) army has destroyed more than 3,000 villages. As a result, currently an estimated 500,000 ethnic civilians are internally displaced in eastern Burma, and more than 2.5 million civilians from Burma, including migrant workers and refugees, are believed to be in Thailand. It is to these refugees – and others from all around the world – that the National Ministries’ Refugee Program provides assistance. The Refugee Program comes alongside local American Baptist churches to support their calling to resettle refugees in their communities in the United States. The needs of each refugee family are unique, but for most include housing, job placement assistance, English as a second language courses, transportation, and moral and spiritual support for each person as they adjust to life in a country often radically different from where they have come. Sharing resources with refugees changes lives – including our own!
Your gifts to the One Great Hour of Sharing offering will provide $60,000.00 for resettling some of these refugees. Central Baptist Church’s goal for the One Great Hour of Sharing offering during the month of June is $3,000.00. Please give generously – online - or mail your offering to the Church or place your financial donation in the plates on Sunday. Share the Love of God by sharing your resources with people in need.
