Disaster Relief Health Kits - 20 Kits mailed May 19

May 13th, 2008

Pray for my friend, Saw Than Win and his family who lives in Myanmar (Burma).  We met in seminary and have stayed in touch over the years.  You probably have seen the news of the devastating Cyclone that struck his country last week.  Thousands of people have died and many are hurt or missing. I have heard no news if he or his family are alive.

Watching the pictures on the television, I ask myself: “What can I do to help?”  Besides praying and giving online to the One Great Hour of Sharing, our church’s offering for disaster relief, refugee assistance, and development aid; you can join me in making Heath Kits.  These packages carry basic hygiene items to persons in need around the world

Making Health Kits is easy and effective.  To make a Health Kit, please place the following items into a clean, new one-gallon Zip-Lock storage bag.  All products need to be in their original packaging.  No sharp, dirty or used items.  Do not include toothpaste (toothpaste that has an extended expiration date will be added to Health Kits just prior to shipment).  Include $2.00 cash in each kit for shipping and handling.

  • One (1) hand towel (16″ x 28″)
  • One (1) washcloth
  • One (1) wide-tooth comb (no sharp ends)
  • One (1) toothbrush
  • One (1) metal finger nail clipper
  • One (1) bar of soup (bath size in original wrapper)
  • Six (6) band-aids

Return Health Kits to Central Baptist Church, 321 N. 7th Street, Quincy, Illinois 62301. Completed Health Kits will be inspected, and then shipped to our global disaster relief partner: Church World Service.  This is an excellent hands-on project for parents to teach children and youth about loving ours neighbors.
